leave of absence

Leave of Absence

Parents/Guardians must ask permission for their child to miss school. To request permission a holiday form or a leave of absence form must be completed.

If Parents/Guardians don’t request permission they risk receiving a fixed penalty notice. Primary and Secondary schools in Leeds follow a common policy on absence during term time. It is up to the Headteacher to decide whether or not the absence will be authorised.

Holiday forms should be completed for all holidays during term time. For time away from school for any other reason a Leave of absence form should be completed. This should be returned to school for authorisation in advance of the proposed leave.

The attendance of all our pupils is incredibly important to us. Good attendance allows children to achieve their full learning potential. When at all possible please take any leave during the set school holidays.

We issue fixed Penalty Notice fines for holiday during term time.

Fixed Penalty Information

For absences of 5 school days or more we will request Leeds City Council issue a Penalty Notice(s) on our behalf which will be £60 per parent per child. Once the penalty notice is issued you will have 21 days in which to pay the fine. If you fail to pay in that time period the fine will double and you then have another seven days in which to pay, taking the total time in which to make payment to 28 days.

I must advise you that if you fail to make payment after 28 days Leeds City Council has the power to prosecute you in the Magistrates Court for the offence of failing to ensure my child attends school regularly. A guilty verdict at court can lead to a fine of up to £1000, and a criminal record which can affect employment opportunities.

This process is in line with current government legislation and Leeds City Council Code of Conduct.
