From September 2014, the premium will be worth £1300 per child and goes to children who at any point in the past 6 years have been in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM). Schools also received £1,900 for any looked after child who has been looked after for one day or more, was adopted from care on or after December 2005, or who has left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order.
Why is there a pupil premium?
Evidence shows that students who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in their school career have consistently lower educational attainment than those who have never been eligible.
